Mama Cassie Flounce Hack
The first hack is for a flounce top using your Mama Cassie Off Shoulder Bodice. You will need your Mama Cassie off shoulder bodice pieces, sleeve length of choice, and skirt length of choice, and the Flounce pattern pieces, found here- M4MMamaCassieHacks Just click that link and it will automatically download. The pieces are layered, so you can just print the size/s you need. For flounce option print pages- 1-2, 4-5. Sizes Orange and Red will need pages 1-5.
Cut 2 Flounce pieces on fold.
Step 1:
Construct your bodice as per the pattern tutorial until step 8 (attaching the neckband). Instead of attaching the neckband, we will be attaching a flounce.
Step 2:
Place the flounce pieces right sides together. Pin along the two short side edges and stitch in place.
Step 3:
Flip Flounce right side out. Quarter your flounce piece. Stick a pin in each side seam. Find the center front and back by matching side seams and stick a pin in the front and back center. Quarter bodice as instructed in the pattern instructions.
Step 4:
Place the raw top edge of the flounce inside of the bodice, matching pins. The RIGHT side of the flounce should be pinned to the WRONG side of the bodice. Stitch in place. For added support, you could add clear elastic to this seam.
Step 5:
Pull the band up and out of the bodice. Flip flounce over. Topstitch bottom edge of flounce if desired.
All done! The flounce is cute and flirty, perfect for a date night ;).
Mama Cassie Banded Top Hack
The next hack is for a banded top using your Mama Cassie Off Shoulder Bodice. It is similar to the flounce hack, with a couple extra steps. You will need your Mama Cassie off shoulder bodice pieces, sleeve length of choice, and skirt length of choice, and the Banded pattern pieces, found here. M4MMamaCassieHacks Just click that link and it will automatically download. The pieces are layered so you can just print the size/s you need. For banded option print pages- 3, 5-6. Sizes Grey- Blue just 3, 6.
Cut 4 Fold Over Band pieces (2 main/2 lining) on fold.
Step 1:
Construct your bodice as per the pattern tutorial until step 8 (attaching the neckband). Instead of attaching the neckband, we will be attaching a fold-over band.
Step 2:
Place main band pieces right sides together and pin in place along the two short edges. Stitch in place. Repeat with lining band pieces.
Step 3:
Flip the lining banded piece right side out. Slip inside the main banded piece, right sides together. Pin the main banded piece to the lining piece along the bottom (the longer curved edge) and stitch in place.
Step 4:
Flip the banded piece right side out and press well.
Step 5:
Quarter your banded piece. Stick a pin in each side seam. Find the center front and back by matching side seams and stick a pin in the front and back center. Quarter bodice as instructed in the pattern instructions.
Place the raw top edge of the band inside of the bodice, matching pins. The RIGHT side of the band should be pinned to the WRONG side of the bodice. Stitch in place. For added support, you could add clear elastic to this seam.
Pull the band up and out of the bodice. Flip band over.
All done! You are ready to rock your banded Cassie!!
Megan even added the fixed straps from the Mama Daphne Hack to this version! Perfect for a little extra support ; )
Mama and Girls Cassie Separates Hack
Lastly, we have hack 3, perfect for both mama and girls. This is the separates hack for a 1/2 circle skirt with crop top. Or, if you have Mama Joy or Joy, pair the Cassie crop with the Joy skirt or vice versa (Joy separates hack found here)!
You will cut all your pattern pieces out as per the tutorial. Your finished skirt will be longer with the added waistband, so you may want to cut 2″ or 2.5″ from the skirt piece. You will also need to cut 1 waistband piece given below. Make sure the stretch is going with the width of your fabric.
Step 1:
For the crop top- Construct bodice as per pattern tutorial. Once you have sewn your bodice side seams, press 1/2″ toward wrong side along raw, bottom edge. Edge stitch hem in place. OR if you slip the top on before hemming and decide you want more length, you could also add a hem band as described here.
Step 2:
create the skirt waistband – fold waistband in half, widthwise, right sides together. Stitch short raw ends together, creating a loop.
Fold band in half lengthwise. Quarter waistband. Stick a pin center front. Center back is your seam. Then match centers and pin sides.
Step 3:
Attach the waistband to the skirt. Construct the skirt as per the tutorial. Once the skirt side seams as sewn and the bottom the skirt hemmed, quarter the top raw edge of the skirt.
With right sides and raw edges together, match pins. Stretch waistband to fit skirt. Stitch waistband to skirt.
Now rock your crop top and skirt!!
