Have you been following the Bonny blog-a-long?? If you haven’t grabbed the Bonny Leggings yet, head to my facebook group for the coupon code in the pinned post. Here are the other posts if you need to catch up: hem bands, exposed or enclosed elastic waistband and gusset tutorials.
Today we’re going to make this adorable bow cuff! You could also leave off the center of the bow, for a plain cuff, like I did for my son. These would be great for jammies! First we need to adjust our pattern piece to accommodate the cuff. You need to mark a new cut line and fold your piece up, so your leggings are not too long.
For sizes 1/2 – 4 you will want to mark or fold your pattern up 2.25″ before cutting out.
Sizes 5-8 fold up 2.5″.
Sizes 10-14 fold up 2.75″.
Next you need to measure the new hem width. Here my shorties line is about 12.5″.
Cut 2 cuff pieces with the stretch going across the width!! This is important or your daughter will not be able to get the cuff over her foot!
1/2 – 4: 5.5″ x width of hem edge – .1″
5-8: 6″ x width of hem edge -1″
10-14: 6.5″ x width of hem edge -1″
For my daughters size 6 SHORTIES I cut two pieces 6″ x 11.5″.
For center bow, cut a 3″ x 3″ piece. Fold in half, right sides together and stitch together with a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Press the seam to the center and turn right sides out. Set aside.
Fold your cuff in half lengthwise (hot dog style), wrong sides together.
Find the center of cuff by folding in half width wise.
Place your center piece, right side up along the cuff center. Baste the center piece along top raw edge of cuff.
Wrap center piece around folded edge of cuff and baste on the other side. Match the short edges of center piece together.
Find center of leggings hem edge by folding in half width wise.
With right sides and raw edges together, match center cuff to center of leggings.
Match edges of cuff to edge of leggings. Your cuff you slightly stretch to fit leggings. Stitch together with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Press seam toward leggings and top stitch if desired.
Finish sewing per pattern and admire the adorable leggings! I ended up making these in ankle length, but have some shorties cut out too!

In the last picture, is that the Talor Tank pattern your daughter is wearing? Love it that fabric with the lace! If it is the Talor I think I must get this pattern before the sale is over 🙂
