I have been getting several requests lately asking if Alyssa and Molly can be made in knit. Well………. YES! Of course it can! Most woven patterns can easily be adapted to be made in knit.
If you want to make exactly per pattern, with an elastic back, you don’t need to make any changes. You can simply substitute knit for woven.
If you would like to make an all knit bodice with no elastic, then this QUICK tutorial is for you! My daughter LOVES all knit dresses and ALWAYS reaches and asks for more. Her favorite pattern of mine is the Emma, made with a simple knit skirt. So making Alyssa and Molly tops, tunics and dresses in all knit goes over BIG in this house!! Again, this will work with my Alyssa, Molly or Baby Molly!
First, instead of cutting 2 back pieces and 2 front pieces, you will just cut 4 front pieces.
Next and last you want to reduce the WIDTH (only width) of the 4 front pieces by 1″. So if your front piece per pattern are 3.5″ x 11.5″ you will cut 4- 3.5″ x 10.5″ pieces.
Tada that is IT!! Everything else can be cut and constructed per tutorial! Horray! I love using pre-made bias for the straps for an even quicker sew! Now a few photos to get you inspired! Head over to my facebook group and show off your knit beauties! I made this one in all knit, but you could also do any combo- knit bodice and woven skirt and straps, ect! Possibilities are endless!
