Today we are going to:
*Select fabric & buttons
*Choose options
*Assemble pattern
*Cut pattern pieces
Fabric Selection…
You can use any light to medium weight wovens: quilters cotton, chambray, corduroy, twill, poplin, light weight denim. You will also need 4 buttons – 7/8” to 1 1/4”. If you are going to add inseam pockets **NEW OPTION**, use quilters cotton for the pockets. Thicker weight fabrics will add too much bulk to your inseam pockets.
Choose your options…
For the sew-a-long, we have added top and tunic lengths (see cutting chart below) and inseam pockets options (get your FREE inseam pocket here: KatelynJumperSALInseamPocket)! You can also choose to change your straps so the button closure is on the back bodice. This will give you more room to embellish your front bodice with lace, trims, embroidery, etc!
Assembling the Pattern…
Just match up the triangles! You only need to tape together the “strap” pages: 1C, 1D, 1E, and 1F. Don’t you just love a pattern that doesn’t use much tape?!?! I know I do!!
Cutting out pattern pieces…
Cut out front bodice & lining, back bodice & lining, 4 straps, 2 skirts. You can easily mash sizes for a custom fit! For example, I cut a 5 width, 6 length for my daughter since she is tall. If you are mashing sizes, don’t forget to do so on on all of your pattern pieces!
Top & Tunic Cutting Chart:
Use this chart for cutting the new top or tunic length. For dress length, refer to the tutorial.
Adding Inseam Pockets?
Use quilters cotton for the new inseam pockets option. Using corduroy or other thick fabric will make your inseam pockets too bulky. For the regular “front pockets”, like in the tutorial, you will be fine using a thicker weight cotton.
That wraps up Day 1… Don’t forget to share your pic in the Day 1 SAL album in the Made for Mermaids Patterns Group page or Instagram #katelynsal #m4msal #katelynjumper!
