Welcome back to ANOTHER day of Christmas Freebies!! For Day 8, we are bringing you Knotted Hair bows in 3 different styles!!
I think hair bow freebies are definitely my favorite – there are just so many pretty bow styles out there! This year’s bow style is super simple and can be used on a hair tie, alligator clip, or even a thin headband!
SUPPLIES:
- Fabric – A small scrap of fabric (an 1/8″ yard is plenty). You can use woven or knit! If using knit, I suggest using a knit with more structure for this (i.e. velvet, corduroy, cotton lycra). Knits with less structure, such as rayon spandex, would not be recommended.
- Tube Turner or something similar to help you turn the bow right side out
- Alligator clip, hair tie, or thin headband
LET’S GET STARTED!
1/4″ seam allowance included
Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page or ask in our Facebook group.
Print and assemble the pattern. There are 2 pages to print out (or we’ve included a projector file for you!). Pattern layout below:
Cut out all of your paper pattern pieces and collect your materials. There are 3 different bow styles: Square, Rounded, or Pointed. They come in sizes small or medium. Select one of the bows to make and cut out the pattern piece.
Step 2: SEW THE BOW
Cut 2 bow pieces, on the fold.
Place the bow pieces right sides together (RST) and pin in place along the entire bow, leaving one side of the center unclipped.
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, start sewing the bow together, leaving one of the straight center sections unsewn.
Clip the corners/curves. I like to use pinking shears for this.
Turn the bow right side out. I like to use a tube turner for this. Press the bow, making sure to press the unsewn section 1/4″ towards the wrong side.
Press the bow, making sure to press the unsewn section 1/4″ towards the wrong side. Hand sew or use a machine to sew this section together.
Step 3: ADD THE BOW TO YOUR CLIP, HAIR TIE, OR HEADBAND
Place the bow under the clip or hair tie. If using an alligator clip, open the clip up and slide the bow in between the opening.
Add a dab of hot gun to the top of the alligator clip, if using. Then knot the bow.
If desired, add a dab of glue under each side of the bow (for the alligator clip option).
That’s it! It’s time to enjoy those knotted hair bows. My daughter loves being able to match her bows to her tops and dresses and I hope all of you love them too!
