Hand sanitizer is a necessity in 2020, so why not display it in a cute way, keep it handy and not lost in the bottom of your bag! Day 2 of our 12 days of freebies are these little hand sanitizer keychains. They are super fast (I mean FAST) to sew up and make such great little gifts! The smaller size keychain was made to fit 1 oz or 29 ml bottles (the Pocket Pac Sanitizer from Bath and Body Works). We have also included a larger size in 1.7 oz or 50 ml, to fit some of the other bigger bottles of sanitizer. The bigger size is also great for small bottles of hand lotion too!
SUPPLIES:
- Scraps of knit fabric – scuba or athletic fabric work best. Any knit that does not roll and the edges stay nice and crisp when cut. To test your fabric, cut a small piece, and stretch the fabric to see if it rolls or unravels.
- 1/2 to 1 inch keychain ring or lobster clasp
LET’S GET STARTED!
1/8″ seam allowances included.
Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no-trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page or ask in our Facebook group.
Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector, yay! There is 2 pages to print out.
Step 2: CUTTING
Cut one of your pieces out. You can mark the line on your fabric or if your fabric is really dark and hard to mark I found it easier to fold my fabric inside my pattern piece and cut right through the pattern piece and fabric as shown below. Cut the line straight across on your fabric, this creates the pocket that your hand sanitizer will slip into. Note- depending on your fabric you may want to stitch 1/8″ around the cut line so the fabric doesn’t unravel or use a little fray check on the cut!
Step 3: ADDING THE KEYCHAIN
Now that you have your piece cut you are going to slide your keychain or lobster clasp onto the piece. You want it right in the middle
Step 4: SEW
Fold the piece in half with the wrong sides together and pin the edges together. Sew from the top edge as close as you can get to the keychain all the way around up to the other side of the keychain with a 1/8″ seam allowance.
That’s it, slip your hand sanitizer into the pocket and you are ready to go! So quick to make for a little gift for anyone on your list 🙂
