Day 2 of our 12 Days of Christmas Freebies!! Have you ever made, or even bought something and thought, it just needs something. A necklace… or collar, maybe! Here is a tutorial for just that. Inspired by Joyfolie, the Tiffany Collar is a beautiful addition to add that extra WOW factor! It is a SUPER FAST sew, I mean FAST! It is also reversible, which means double the fun! 🙂
You can download the Tiffany Collar in the Freebies section of the website right here!
Supplies:
*Fabric: woven, satin, sequin, lace, fur, suede, etc.
*Ribbon- 1/4″ through 5/8″ size recommended. You could use bigger ribbon for a bold statement or make your own.
Step 1: Cutting
Cut 2 collar pieces on the bias. You will also cut 2, 12″ ribbons for your ties.
Step 2: Ribbons
Take your main fabric. Place your ribbon 1/4″ from top centers, face down, with the tails pointing inside, towards the collar. Raw edge of ribbon and raw center edge of main fabric should line up. Pin and stitch ribbon in place.
Once your ribbons are stitched in place, I like to fold my ribbons and pin them in the center so they are out of the way.
Step 3: Constructing the collar
With right sides together, place main and lining pieces together. Pin. Stitch around entire collar with 1/4″ seam allowance, leaving a 1-2″ opening for turning.
Clip corners and curves. I like to use pinking shears to clip and trim at the same time. DO NOT TRIM THE OPENING!!
Use a point turner to turn right side out, pushing the corners out very well. Be careful when turning if you used pins to keep your ribbon out of the way. You don’t want to stick yourself! Press. TIP: Use a pressing cloth if using delicate fabrics!!
Top stitch around entire collar closing up the opening you used for turning. OR…. If you used sequins, fur or other special occasion fabrics, hand stitch the opening.
Step 4: Finishing
Use a lighter to heat-seal the ends of your ribbon so they do not fray.
Tie your ribbon in a bow and VOILA! Now you have a beautiful collar to add to your dress or top!
Now, prepare to be overloaded with cuteness! Here are some inspiring photos from our wonderful testers…
So cute, right??? This is a great scrap busting project that makes a BIG statement! We hope you are enjoying your freebies so far. Don’t forget to join the Made for Mermaids Patterns Group on Facebook to see more sneak peeks of our 12 Days of Christmas Freebies!
**NOTE** For safety, this should always be worn when you are with and have eyes on your child. Always be careful with anything that ties around the neck.
