Today’s the last day of our Fae Sew-a-long, unless you’re adding the optional pockets 🙂 Since we have a little extra time through the weekend to catch up, the hem band and neckband/shawl are combined into one day. If you’re pressed for time, you can always do one today and one tomorrow, though.
Do keep in mind that the shawl is meant to be scrunched down a bit at the neck, not folded over. If you opt to fold it over instead, you’re going to want to add roughly double the width to your shawl pattern pieces, so that your serged edges don’t end up exposed. Hoping to just hem the bottom instead? No worries – we’ve got you covered in our Fae hacks!
Don’t forget:
- Make sure you are taking an accurate and consistent seam allowance; seam allowance is included on all pattern pieces.
- Be sure that your back hem band is cut on the fold, and the front hem band pieces are not.
- Notches should be cut AWAY from the fabric, not cut into the fabric.
- The raw edges of your hem band will be enclosed by the neck band.

If you have questions about constructing adding either of your bands, you are always welcome to post in our SAL group so we can help you! Be sure you’ve checked on each of the SAL posts in order to enter our giveaways. We can’t wait to see what you’ve created this week!
