Hello lovely sewists! It’s Melissa here, and I’m so excited to share my latest project using fabric from Sarah Jane’s stunning new Magic Collection from Michael Miller Fabrics!

As with many fabric lovers, I have always been so inspired by Sarah Jane’s illustrations and fabric collections. Her designs always have such a fun and whimsical feel, and Magic is no exception. It truly doesn’t get any more magical than unicorns, constellations, mermaids, and dragons! Not to mention the stunning color palette of gorgeous pastels and metallic gold! Every single bit of it is just so delicious, I am thrilled at the opportunity to sew up this look and share it with you!

This collection has such a timeless, classic feel of childhood innocence, so I really wanted to reflect that in the look I created! I decided to go with one of my favorite pattern pairings – the Lauren Pintuck Top and the Samantha Suspender Skirt. I just adore the peter pan collar and those pin tucks! The Samantha Suspender skirt really completes the classic look with the high waist and the darling bow in the back!

This swoon-worthy combination of fabric & patterns is a match made in heaven! They just compliment each other so well, and completely brought my vision to life! I decided to add some cute white enamel buttons with metallic gold accents to the front of the Lauren top, and I used a gold metal shank button for the back closure. The photos don’t really do the metallic gold accents justice – they are gorgeous in real life and even sparkle! I’m sure you can imagine how excited Maci was about this outfit 🙂

To complete our vintagey-girly girl-classic look, we had to throw on some knee socks! And if you can’t tell, those magenta shoes match the little hearts in Unicorn Forest perfectly! I’m still in awe with how well everything came together!

I’ll also let you in on a little secret – I actually made this Lauren in the curved hem tunic-length! This way, she can wear it tucked into the skirt and it just looks like a blouse, but she can also wear it with a pair of metallic gold Bonny Leggings for a totally different and super cute look!

I just can’t get over the dreamy, whimsical beauty of the Magic collection. I absolutely love this special outfit I was able to create for Maci, and she adores it too! #momwin! I also have to mention that on top of the stunning designs and amazing metallic accents, this fabric is SO SOFT and wonderful to work with. I really couldn’t ask for more! Make sure to pick up some (or ALL!) of Sarah Jane’s Magic collection while it’s available and create something perfectly whimsical for you or your favorite girl!
