Last week we added two new patterns to the shop… Daphne and Mama Daphne! If you’ve been in any clothing store lately or follow fashion trends online, you know that off-the-shoulder is back!!! I’ve always been a huge fan of this style. It’s fun, flirty, and perfect for summer!
These patterns have been in the works for a long time now and I’m so excited to share them with the PDF world!
Mama Daphne is loaded with options in a wide size range (see chart below).
Choose from a full ruffle or flirty shoulder flutters. You can also choose a sleeve option (short, 3/4 or long) with or without elastic. Top length or add a skirt with elastic casing. There are 4 skirt lengths included for you: mini, knee, maxi, and puddle maxi. Tie straps included, or check out the blog for fixed straps!
Let’s talk fabric selection!! You can use either light-weight, drapey wovens or knit. I love love LOVE rayon challis on this one. It drapes beautifully over the body and is light and airy. Peach skin, voile, chiffon, chambray, lawn, etc. will also work nicely. We do not recommend using quilting cotton on the women’s version. It does not have as nice drape on a woman’s figure as the other types listed above. For knit, this is lovely in rayon spandex blends, jersey, and even lighter cotton lycras! Remember, the thicker the fabric, the more structure the garment will have. Meaning it will stick out from the body more.
For the ruffle and flutter versions, the arm holes are finished with bias or binding. You can use premade or make your own using the directions in the tutorial. The good news is, you only need a small amount, so it doesn’t take long to make matching bias tape if you want to go that route!! 🙂
Now to show off our gorgeous testers in all the various Mama Daphne options…
Lets start out with the Full Ruffle.
Here is the shoulder flutter version. I fell in love with a top I saw at American Eagle and had to recreate the look!
Sleeves- short, 3/4 length or long. You can choose to insert elastic into the hemline of any sleeve option.
Now on to the lengths:
Top- loose through the body for a comfortable, flowy fit
Mini Dress- hits mid thigh
Knee Length Dress- hits just above knee
Maxi and Puddle- maxi length to the ground and the puddle will “puddle” and pool at your feet.
Mama Daphne can be pulled up on the shoulders too if you aren’t an off-the-shoulder fan or want to wear a regular bra. Look how cute our testers Jessica, Angela and Stacey look with their Daphne’s pulled up on the shoulder. They made no modifications to the pattern to get this look:
