Naomi is the first release of our new Resort Collection! Of course you can wear Naomi anywhere you see fit, but the drama of the faux-wrap and the back ties make it the perfect vacation or photoshoot dress! Be sure to check out the tutorial where Megan shows lots of different ways to tie the straps. Grab the Women’s Naomi here and girls here, or the bundle with both!
Wondering how to get the most out of your Naomi pattern? Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered with some additional hacks!
Attaching Cups
LOVE the look of Naomi but wondering if it will work for you? Nicole shows two options below to give you a little more support/shape. Of course, you can also use various RTW plunge/backless bras if you’re more comfortable with that option.
- Pin cups to the WRONG side of the lining. The cups should be cupped away from the lining. (the wrong side of the cup to the wrong side of the lining.)The location of the cups will be based on your own body. I suggest holding up the bodice to see where you may need to place your cups. Be sure to leave at least 1/4″ along the neckline and armscye for your seam allowance. Stitch cups in place with a zig-zag stitch.
- Alternatively, you can add a bra for more lift/coverage. I chose to cut up an old nursing bra since I had no need for it. Stitch along the bottom band and along the top where the straps were previously attached. I left the armscye and neckline of the cup detached.
- With right sides together, stitch the lining to main bodice as shown per the pattern.
- Turn bodice right side out.
- The cups/bra will be sandwiched between the main and lining. Proceed with remaining steps per the pattern instructions
That’s it! All the beauty of the backless Naomi, with a little more coverage and support in the front!
Double Faux Wrap Skirts
What’s better than one dramatic side slit? Two, of course! To achieve this look, cut two side skirt pieces. Hem both sides of the main skirt pieces after constructing your pleats. Then repeat overlapping the skirts in step 5 on both sides of the main skirt.
Double Straps
Double your creative tying options with double straps! Cut and stitch four strap pieces total. On step 3, stitch 2 straps to each pick up on the bodice. Optional: Cut two additional loop pieces.
Swim/Crop Top
Use your favorite swim fabric, or even activewear fabric to make this swim or crop top! You will definitely want to add swim elastic to the hemline, but you may also wish to add to the seams and/or straps as well. To construct, omit the bodice gathers. This will give you a bit more coverage on the side. Add about 4″ to your strap loop so you can add 2 more loops along the bottom edge of the bodice. BONUS this makes the swim or crop top reversible, yay!
- Add an extra loop on each side of the bodice,1/2″ from bottom edge.
- Stitch lining to the main fabric all around, leaving a 2″ opening to turn.
- Turn right sides out. Hand stitch the bottom closed or topstitch along the bottom to close opening.
Maternity
This is a super quick and easy hack! During testing, we found that gathering the skirt, rather than constructing the pleats, was more flattering on those pregnant bellies! Just gather your skirt pieces to the width given in step 6, and show that belly off!
Wondering how we could POSSIBLY have left out a romper hack? SHHHHHH don’t tell anyone, but it will mash perfectly with another piece in the Resort Collection that’s coming later this summer 😉 We hope you LOVE the Naomi pattern and all the possibilities it has. We can’t wait to see what you create!
Love the bra insert idea
My first thought when I saw this was ROMPER. Anyone done that?
We have a romper coming in the collection that will mash with it 🙂
The swim top option is great! Which pattern is the swim bottoms in the images that you posted? Thank you!
They are a RTW swim bottom 🙂
What is RTW?
Ready to wear or purchased from the store.
I love the Naomi so much! I’m wondering if I can make the top and skirt seperate.separate.. I see the gorgeous separate top, I’m gonna figure out how to make the skirt a separate
