It’s Day 4 of our Stella sew-a-long! How is your Stella coming along?? Hopefully you’re making good progress!
Today we are going to attach our neckbands. Neckbands get much, much easier with practice! If you find yourself struggling, I HIGHLY suggest basting your neckband on before serging. This allows you to do some troubleshooting before doing anything that may be more permanent. Especially if you are new to v-necks, basting is a fairly quick and easy way to ensure a professional finish.
Don’t forget:
- seam allowance is 1/2″; if you take a smaller seam allowance, your neckband will be wider than intended. We often see people only use what the serger typically cuts off as their seam allowance; this is less than 1/2″ 🙂
- seam allowance is already included on the paper pattern pieces AND in the cut chart measurements provided
- Note: For the off shoulder version, I like to line my neckband seam up with the shoulder seam, so it really doesn’t matter which is the “front” and which is the “back”!
Ready to sew along with Stephanie??
Looking for a something to pair with Stella? Don’t forget about Lexi and Lexi + Lou Joggers/Lounge Pants! Just like Stella, they come in Women’s, youth, and dolly sizes. Both of my kids LOVE Stella and Lexi + Lou; my son has several sets! For Stella, the only modification I make is to bring the neckline up a smidge, and straighten out the side seams. The pants are perfect as is for his preference, but you may consider sizing up as they are intended to be a very slim fit.
If you have questions about attaching your neckband, you are always welcome to post in our SAL group so we can help you! Be sure to check in each day during the SAL, and look for daily posts to enter our giveaways. Stephanie will be back to sew with you tomorrow. We can’t wait to see what you create this week.
