Yay! We’re finishing up our Aria sewing today!
In today’s video, I’m cleaning up any stray threads and basting stitches, finishing the seam allowances for each tier, and hemming.
It’s important to not serge off your elastic when you finish your seam allowances! I just run the raw edges through the serger with my knife disengaged, to make sure no elastic accidentally is removed.
For hemming, you can use a stretch stitch or a twin needle on your regular sewing machine, or you can use a coverstitch if you’d like. To mimic the look of a coverstitch, you could also serge the raw edge without cutting any off, then hem with a twin needle.
Don’t forget:
- hem allowance is 1/2″
- your elastic should fall within the seam allowance
- use a stretch stitch to hem
Ready to sew along with us??
If you have questions about hemming, you are always welcome to post in our SAL group so we can help you! Be sure to check in each day during the SAL, and look for daily posts to enter our giveaways. We can’t wait to see what you create this week.
