We couldn’t have a Back to School Blog tour and not include Team Mermaid! With all the pattern testing and releases that we always seem to have going on, our girls are never lacking in the clothing department! Most of the time, what we make during testing is perfect for school clothes. I had to laugh when I saw what we each chose to make for the tour. We didn’t really talk about what we each planned to sew up and well, you’ll see below why we all get along so well! Great minds think alike, right?! Check out what we all made below!
Back to School isn’t for another month for us, but nothing like getting prepared early! Nevaeh is going into Grade 4 this year, so is in that pre-tween, I’m-super-cool stage! She is naturally a very casual girl, and prefers jeans and t-shirts most days; although she has a ton of dresses in her closet, she rarely will wear them to school. On the rare occasion she does, she is all about t-shirt dresses. Mya is the perfect everyday dress! Mya is cute, casual, and pairs with her chucks (which is super important to her; she is all about sneakers so if the dress doesn’t work with chucks, well, she will not wear it to school! ). The other thing we love about Mya is it transitions really nicely for other seasons. Throw on a jean jacket and she is ready for fall, while some Bonny leggings and a Darcey cardigan make it work perfectly for winter, and come spring she will wear a jean vest with it! We chose a solid bright pink (her favorite color) for this Mya as her chucks are pretty funky, but I also love that she can easily pair this with some patterned leggings and tie it up on one side to make it more of a tunic.
Megan T. here! I’ve been using our recent pattern tests to stock the kids’ closets with new, trendy, tween-approved clothes that can transition into fall! As my daughter gets older, she doesn’t want to wear frills and ruffles *as much*. (I can still sneak them into rotation if it’s pink or has a unicorn on it ;). ) She loves bright colors, sequins, glitter, unicorns, and rainbows. She had picked this emoji fabric out last year and I was saving it for some back-to-school outfits for her.
***SNEAK PEEK ALERT*** I used our Mya pattern to make this racerback tank. That’s right!!! I said TANK. Mya is in testing right now and she’s getting an update, to include tank top options- regular sleeveless and racerback! Testing is wrapping up and the update will be released in August :).
This double brushed poly print gave her all the ‘heart eyes’ and she can’t wait to wear it to school! Throw on a zip-up hoodie or cardigan and she’s ready for cool weather in a few months! Paired with some embroidered jeans (from Target) and Converse.
Mya makes a great canvas for those fun heat transfer vinyl appliqués! We have several {free} cut files on the site, or you can also create your own back to school designs! It’s an easy way to make your basic solids and stripes a little more custom and personalized. How cute is this “hello gorgeous” Mya that Catherine made?!
We’ve talked a lot this week about making outfits that pass the tween approval test, but Mya is SO good for those little ones heading off to preschool and daycare, too! With all of the extra ruffle options (at the neck, shoulder, and sleeve), it really is the perfect pattern for all ages and style preferences.
Since everybody else decided to go with Mya, I went against the grain and did a different look – Ainsley! I chose the flutter sleeve option and mashed it with the Cassie skirt for a quick and easy first day of school dress! My little girl has asked to wear this dress over and over again since I finished it!
Stay tuned for the updated Mya to release later this month, and don’t forget to check out all the great bloggers from this year’s Back to School Tour:
