Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, lived a sewing momma who made many dresses and outfits for her two little girls. Fast forward to the present, and she now has a little boy and very few “boy” patterns.
For my little man’s 2nd Halloween, I decided I was going to use my Made for Mermaids pattern collection to come up with a costume for my little guy! Presenting… Baby Yoda featuring the Kelli Kimono and Bonny Leggings!
Here are the Yoda Costume basics:
*Kelli Kimono
*Bonny Leggings
*Yoda Hat- crocheted by me 🙂
*Light Saber
*Scrap fabric for belt
For Yoda’s robe, I used the Kelli Kimono lengthened. He is a perfect 1/2 size according to the size chart, but I wanted the kimono to be longer, so I just cut the length a few sizes longer! I did cut the sleeves to a size 1 length and left off the sleeve bands. I tied a leftover scrap of brown knit at the waist. The Kelli Kimono works best with knit or light weight woven fabrics that have a nice drape. I used fleece from Joann Fabrics to help keep the little guy warm on Halloween.
For his little Yoda pants, I went with the Bonny Leggings in 1/2 size. The brown Cotton Lycra knit is from the fabulous Purpleseamstress on Facebook. I used the cuff modification that Megan G. wrote up during the Bonny Blog-a-long! These leggings are not just for girls… oh no! Confession time: I’ve actually made more Bonny’s for him than I have made for my girls! They make the perfect pants or PJ bottoms, especially with the cuff. Get the cuff tutorial here!
I crocheted the Yoda hat and purchased the mini light saber from Build-a-Bear, of all places! My hubby is a huge Star Wars fan and he was pretty pleased with how our Baby Yoda turned out! Woo hoo! Thanks to Megan Gorman for creating such awesome patterns…. that aren’t just for girls! I definitely enjoyed challenging myself to use patterns from my collection. Now I can take that extra money I saved on patterns and buy some new fabric…. am I right??? 🙂
Happy Halloween!
