The Brooklyn and Riley mash-up has been a favorite lately in the Made for Mermaids Patterns Group! And for good reason! The twirl factor and sleeve options make for a twirly, weather appropriate dress or top that everybody loves! Because we are using the circle skirt from the Riley dress, we eliminate the need for gathering which makes this a super fast sew… YAY!!! I snapped a few pictures to help you mix and mash these patterns for the “must-have” dress of the season!
The fabric in this top is from our friend, Serina at KNITorious Fabric. The front panel and sleeves are Dream to Fly Butterflies and the Skirt and back bodice are the Inspire print from the Inspiration Round that is on pre-order today 11/20/15 through 12/5/15. This gorgeous cotton lycra fabric is so buttery soft and the colors are beautiful and vibrant!!! http://knitoriousfabric.com/
On to the Mash-up! You will need both the Brooklyn and Riley patterns. The skirts on these patterns are interchangeable. We will be using the Brooklyn bodice/sleeves and the Riley skirt.
Cut out your Brooklyn bodices, sleeves and bands. Cut your skirt from the Riley pattern.
Next, we are going to construct our Brooklyn bodice. Follow your pattern tutorial instructions and make your bodice. You can use any of the sleeve lengths you want from Brooklyn. Find the center of your front and back bodices and pin. Your side seams will be the other quarter points of the bodice.
You should have your finished bodice and skirt ready to assemble now!
Pin your skirt at the quarter points, along the waist.
With right sides together, match up the quarter points on your bodice with the pins on your skirt.
Stitch your bodice to skirt. Boom… you did it!
Now here’s lots of photos because my girl LOVES her Brooklyn + Riley.
Thanks again to KNITorious Fabric for the beautiful fabric.
