Have you grabbed your new Dylan Tee and Men’s Dylan Tee?? I’m here to share an EASY hack to create a tank with your Dylan patterns!
Print and assemble your pattern pieces. Since you’re adding a band on our tank, you need to remove some of the armscye so it’s not too high or tight on those arms. If you just banded the shirt without altering, it would fit very snug and uncomfortable on the underarm. For the boy’s cut 1/2″ off the armsyce pieces of the shirt and panel piece. For the men’s cut 1″ off as shown below.
Construct your shirt per tutorial. Instead of attaching the sleeve, you will measure the finished armscye. multiply by 85% and then add a seam allowance.
Example- finished armscye= 9.5″. Multiply 9.5″ by 85%= 8.075″ round to 8″. Then add 1″ for the seam allowance= 9″. You will cut 2 armbands 2″ x 9″ for the boys and for the men’s cut 3″ x 9″. So the neck and armband finish the same width (Remember this is just an example 😉 )
Follow the tutorial for stitching the neckband and then repeat the steps for your armbands. You can play with how much you cut off your pieces to create different looks. Liesel cut 5/8″ off this example for a deeper armhole. So cute!!
I know we will be making tons of these for our Texas summer, I hope you do too!
