Day 11 is here! Today’s freebie is a fabric gift bag in tall and short sizes! You have probably seen these in stores everywhere lately. They are usually with the wrapping paper and gift bags. Perfect for gift wrapping wine bottles, candles, soap, lotions, jewelry and other small gifts! What a pretty way to wrap up your gifts for hostesses, teachers, friends and family!
Grab your FREE pattern here!
Print your pattern pieces at 100% or no scaling. Your pattern pieces will go together like a bingo card- 1A, 1B. After you put your pieces together, then cut your pieces out. If you have more questions about how the pages go together or printing issues check the faqs and troubleshooting page here.
Take a look at the gift bag pattern and note the “short cut line” on page 1B. If you plan on using the short version, either fold or cut your pattern piece along this line. Then proceed to cut your fabric.
Fabric requirements:
1/4 yard light to medium weight wovens, flannel, faux-fur, burlap, knit, fleece
ribbon
Finished measurements: Based on a 1″ hem, laying flat
Short: 5.5″ x 8″
Tall: 5.5″ x 13.25″
Cut one on the fold. If you are using directional fabric, make sure your print is going the right way!
Fold in half lengthwise with right sides together and pin the sides.
Stitch the sides with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Finish seams with a serger or zig zag stitch.
Now we are going to form the bottom of the bag. Put your hand inside to push out the bottom. Stitch across each seam at the bottom of the bag using the yellow dashed lines as a guide.
Serge or zig zag stitch along the top raw edge, do not cut any off.
To hem: Fold and press toward wrong side 1″ to 1.5″. Edge stitch hem in place. TIP: I like to slip my wine bottle or gift in the bag first to determine how much of the gift, if any, I want sticking out. For a regular bottle of wine, I like to hem 1.5″
Place your gift inside and tie ribbon around to close up the bag. See how simple? What a great way to use up scraps and personalize gift wrapping for your friends and family! One of our testers, Nicole took the svg Christmas files from Day 6 and decorated her gift bags and they are oh-so cute!!!
