Day 5:
Day 5 is all about our skirt! I’m sewing up the simple skirt, but you’ll use the same gathering techniques if you are doing the tiered versions as well!
I stabilized my waist seam by attaching 3/8″ clear elastic to the right side of the waistband raw edge. For the youth size simple skirt, you don’t *need* the clear elastic in the waist seams, but it does help! For the adult sizes, especially with the tiers, you will definitely want the clear elastic as added support.
Don’t forget:
- Make sure you are taking an accurate and consistent seam allowance; seam allowance is already included on all pattern pieces. For this pattern, seam allowances DO vary!
- Stabilize your waist seam!
- Gather front skirt and back skirt separately just to make it easier to even out your gathers, and to help keep your threads from snapping!
- Place gathering stitches at 1/4″ and 5/8″ down from the top raw edge of the skirt
