Today is Day 4 of our sew-a-long! We’ll knock out our cuffs and waistband today. If you’re hemming either your sleeves or your bottom edges instead of cuffs/bands, you’re welcome to do that today instead of waiting until Day 6! I know some of you are doing a mix of bands/hemming, so I left them at different days just in case anyone needed the extra time 🙂
If you’re doing the roll up sleeve option, remember that you’ll place the cuffs against the WRONG side of your sleeves, matching up raw edges. This way the seam will be enclosed when you roll the sleeve up, just as the name suggests!
If you’re doing the waist band, be sure to quarter the waist band and the waist opening. This will help make sure your band goes around evenly. You shouldn’t have to stretch much at all!
Don’t forget:
- Make sure you are taking an accurate and consistent seam allowance
- You can baste your waistband raw edges before attaching if you’d like; this is helpful especially if you’re working with a slippery fabric
- Be sure not to stretch the sleeve or the waist opening when you’re sewing; you should only be lightly stretching the bands/cuffs themselves

If you have questions about attaching your cuffs or waistband, you are always welcome to post in our SAL group so we can help you! Be sure to check in each day during the SAL, and look for daily posts to enter our giveaways. We can’t wait to see what you create this week!
