Day 2:
Today we have a few steps to tackle! First, we will sew our shoulder seams. Be sure that you’ve cut mirror images for the front bodice pieces, and that the back bodice was cut on the fold. Sew your shoulder seams with right sides of your fabric together.
Your next step will depend on your options! If you are sewing a sleeved version, you will attach your sleeves here BEFORE sewing up the side seams. Follow the directions in the written tutorial. If you are sewing a sleeveless version, you will sew the side seams first.
For the sleeveless version, construct your arm bands. Then, quarter the band and the armscye. Attach using your serger or a stretch stitch. You can choose to press and topstitch, or just press. I decided to topstitch since I’ll be using my coverstitch along the neckline as well later this week, but it’s really personal preference!
Don’t forget:
- Make sure you are taking an accurate and consistent seam allowance; seam allowance is already included on all pattern pieces, and is 1/2″ unless otherwise indicated in the tutorial.
- Be sure that you cut on the correct lines for sleeveless/sleeved, depending on which option you chose; the sleeveless cut line is the inner, faded line on your bodice pattern pieces.
