We’re only a *little* bit sorry about all of our new summer patterns! We hope they bring a bit of sunshine to you, and that you make yourself something resort-worthy even if you’re not traveling further than your backyard. Ruthie is the newest pattern to hit our resort collection, and we think you’ll be just as smitten with the options as we are!
Our adult Ruthie features a ruched crop, top, dress, or midi. You can choose between small or large keyholes, or a center ruched style. The back neckline is scooped for all options. The crop and top options are fitted and pair great with shorts or skirts, or you can opt for a half or full circle skirt dress. All dress options have a curved hemming in the front and back. For the half circle, you can choose between above the knee or midi lengths. The full circle option above the knee or knee length options. The optional inseam pockets are compatible with any of the skirt options. Want more options? Ruthie is designed to mash perfectly with both Eloise and Heidi.
Youth Ruthie includes a lot of what we love about the adult version! Choose between a keyhole or center ruched style bodice. Lengths include crop, top, dress, or midi length. All skirts feature a curved hemline in both the front and back. Youth Ruthie mashes perfectly with Kaia and Jade for even more options!
Looking for some helpful tips and/or some easy hack ideas? We have got you covered as usual!!
Masking Tape Tip!
This isn’t a hack per se, but a super helpful tip from Tammie, one of our beautiful testers! If you’re struggling with seeing the marking lines when you’re creating the casings for the Ruthie bodice, you can use masking tape as a guideline! 🙂
Keyhole Hardware Hack
Want to use fun hardware pieces instead of a fabric tie for the keyhole option? No problem! Teri found this style on Etsy. She’d recommend hand stitching the ball on this one to keep it secure.
This style is called a Gate Ring, used in bag making. There are several types, including spring-loaded or some that screw together. You can find similar styles here.
You can even use binder rings like Livia did, though they may not be as sturdy as hardware intended for garments!
Swim Hack
This hack is super simple! Just use swim elastic in the seams of the Ruthie crop or top, and use swim fabric and swim lining in lieu of the recommended fabrics. Other than that, you can follow the tutorial exactly as written. Depending on your preference, you could also make minor adjustments such as shortening the top a bit, adding a band, etc. Looking for bottoms to pair a Ruthie swim top with? Ruthie + Eloise Mash
Ruthie mashes perfectly with Eloise, or with Heidi! Jennifer used the peplum skirt from Eloise for this mash. For youth, you can also use the Jade skirt as well. Complete the Ruthie top per the Ruthie tutorial, and the Eloise skirt per the Eloise tutorial, and then attach the two using a serger or stretch stitch on your sewing machine.
Reversible Hack
We are loving Livia’s ruched version! To make it reversible, she simply finished the bottom hem with FOE (fold over elastic). Such a simple way to get versatile looks!
Lizzy and Ree Nay made reversible options as well – just fold the hem in on itself, and then topstitch. You could also finish both raw edges of the bottom hem together with a lettuce hem or similar finish.
We hope you are just as obsessed with the new Ruthie patterns as we are! We can’t wait to see what you make for yourself or your little ones.
