Hi everyone, Kelly here! I love sewing for holidays and events. My husband is currently deployed, so the kids and I are using each holiday as a milestone on our journey to his homecoming. I can tell with all the hearts and candies at the stores lately that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. While my Valentine isn’t currently in town, that doesn’t mean that I can’t sew up some pretty lingerie for myself!
I looked through the Lounge & Lace Collection to see what I might want to sew up. I really liked the idea of a romantic nightie and love the options that the Bridgette Bralette & Nightie has, so it was the perfect choice. I got lucky a while back and found some 11″ wide stretch lace at the National City Swap Meet in San Diego. I also picked up a bunch of printed mesh while I was there as well. I had several options to choose from for my Bridgette. Ultimately, I went with more traditional Valentine’s colors, with red being my main focus.
I chose the racerback option with open sides to show off as much of the lace as I could in the bralette portion. It was fun to fit all the pieces together and have such a pretty racerback to display.
A tip for sewing with mesh and lace – when you’re at the edge of your fabric and starting to sew, place a piece of tissue under your fabric so your sewing machine won’t eat it. I use a projector to cut out my patterns, but do still trace sometimes, and for that I use medical supply paper that I found on Amazon. It’s the perfect weight to use at the start of delicate fabrics and be able to rip it cleanly off of the back.
I cut out the bottom band of the bra with a lace edge, not remembering that I didn’t need the lace edge since I was adding on the skirt – so I decided to showcase that edge and sewed the skirt on under it. So pretty!
I’m glad I also grabbed the Victoria Cheekies & Thong pattern to wear with my new Bridgette – they are the perfect complement to one another. Because I made the Bridgette with full open sides in the skirt, the little sneak of my red lace thong is so flirty!
The thong version of Victoria is great when you’re running out of lace, like I was. With Bridgette and Victoria paired together, now my set is complete!
I’m so happy that I took the time to sew up some gorgeous lingerie for myself this Valentine’s. I hope you all take a bit of time for a personal sew that will make you feel beautiful.
xoxo,
Kelly
