I don’t want to be that person, but… I’m already thinking about transitional wear for summer to fall. I know it’s too soon! But, I’ve got a great pattern mash for you that is perfect for now AND later.
Zoey + Mila
This is such an easy pairing to give you a new look for your beloved knit overalls!
I don’t have any construction details to share, because the magic here is in the patterning. Follow these steps in order to get the fit just right:
Start by tracing your Zoey back leg (depicted above in the black line), then overlay and trace the Mila back leg (depicted above in the gray line), lining up at the waist seam.
Measure the distance between the bottom hem lines.
Next, trace your Zoey front leg, then overlay the Mila front leg – keeping the same measurement (from the previous step) between the bottom hem lines.
The top of the pattern will not line up for this piece because Zoey has an extra front waistband piece, so it’s important to line up the pattern pieces based on that bottom hem measurement from the first step.
Next, you will cut along the dotted lines shown below. The red line indicated an intersection that needs to be smoothed between the two pieces.
Once you have your two new pattern pieces, don’t skip this step… MEASURE THE INSEAM AND ADJUST TO YOUR HEIGHT PREFERENCES.
The Zoey leg pattern has a shorter inseam to allow for the addition of a cuff. The Mila leg pattern is losing some length because we are cutting from the Zoey crotch seam. So it’s important to add length in to achieve the pant length that you desire. I added 5″ to my make.
Cut and assemble per the Zoey pattern instructions and you have yourself a fancy new pair of overalls – a versatile make that you can dress up or down and wear across seasons!
I used a fabulous lightweight LiKnit from Surge Fabric Shop. It has a lovely linen-look and feel, with great recovery and maximum breathability. So great!
