Swimsuits can be intimidating, but are so very fun and surprisingly easy to make! You can make one with next to no fabric (for a child 😉 ) and very quickly too! The first swimsuit I made when my sister Nicole was testing her 4-in-1 swimsuit pattern. I used a sewing machine for the entire construction and while they weren’t the prettiest on the inside, they were oh so cute on my daughter!! I have made her a few every summer since and she always loves them so much.
My daughter is very tall for her age; always has been and I’m guessing always will. It is impossible to buy her a one piece from the store. Trust me I have tried!! If they are long enough in the body, the rest of the swimsuit swallows her up! That is one of the joys of sewing, customizing to fit your child’s needs! In the bow-a-licous size chart, her height is a size 7/8, chest 2/3, waist 1/2 and hips 6. It is surprisingly easy to mash sizes for a custom fit. It doesn’t take long and it makes such a difference in how the suit fits. My sister has several videos on her youtube channel to help you out. I made this wearable muslin for her in the bow-a-licious and she LOVES it! I also made her dolly, Samantha, one too!
I wish I could have gotten better photos of this, but my daughter was in a MOOD and not into modeling!! We spend a lot of time at the lake and pool here in Texas, so I will be whipping up a lot more of these. Here are lots of photos. Ignore her diva attitude!
Here is the ONLY pose she wanted to do 😉
