It’s that time again! Can you believe it’s our 8th annual 12 Days of Freebies?! It’s so fun to put together these quick and simple freebies. We love to say “thank you” to all of you in our Mermaid community this month! We hope these freebies (and our freebies from previous years – 2015, 2016, 2017 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) make your holiday gift-giving a little less stressful and more merry & bright. We try to come up with useful patterns for you to gift to others (or for yourself 😜) that don’t include a ton of fabric, supplies, or TIME. Don’t forget to come back each day to see what new freebie we have for you and ‘PIN” them for later! 🙂
Today we have a quick and simple felt corner bookmark. This is perfect for any book lover on your list. You can add it to a book as a gift, add it to a teacher’s gift, or as a stocking stuffer. I’m making mine in felt, but you could use whatever material you have on hand. We had testers make them in vinyl, faux leather, and more.
SUPPLIES:
- Small scraps of felt
- Optional- embroidery thread, embroidery needle, sequins, beads, pom poms, etc.
LET’S GET STARTED!
Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page , check out the blog post here, or ask in our Facebook group .
Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector. There are 2 pages to print out. Pattern layout below:
Step 2: Cutting
Cut 2 pieces.
Add any embellishments you want to 1 of your pieces. I like to use a chalk or erasable pen to draw my design. I love hand embroidery, so chose to do that on mine. You could also add vinyl, have your little one draw with fabric markers or paint, add cute buttons, poms, bells, or patches, or use decorative stitches from your sewing machine.
Alternatively, you could embellish your bookmark and then cut it out after.
Lay the embellished piece on the other and blanket stitch around two outside edges. If you need a tutorial on blanket stitches or embellishing, there are a few videos below. You could also stitch them together with your machine using either a decorative.
