Meet Loren, the newest member of our Lounge and Lace Collection! Loren is a sexy, classic, beautiful knit teddy available in adult sizing (using the women’s standard size chart). The bodice can be done in galloon lace or as a lined bodice, and it also includes both SBA (Small Bust Adjustment) and FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) pieces. The bottoms are designed to hit at the waist, and are finished with elastic; you can choose between a cheeky or thong cut line. Finish your leg line with picot elastic, and there is also an optional hook and eye closure for easy removal.
You already know we love versatility, so if you’re anything like us, you’ll LOVE that you can tie the long straps in so many different ways!
Loren is a quick and easy pattern to jump into lingerie sewing; there are videos included in the pattern tutorial, AND it will be featured in our February 2022 sew-a-long in our Facebook group. Of course, we couldn’t resist taking Loren out in public too, with these fun hacks!
Criss-cross straps
When looking at ready-to-wear inspiration when designing Loren, I saw many teddy styles with criss-cross straps in the center of the cups. It’s a simple and fun hack! All you need is either extra picot elastic, or I used flat elastic. You could add as many criss-cross straps as you want. You could also add them straight across. I suggest laying your teddy flat, then pin elastics in place, and BASTE the elastics on. Try the teddy on, adjust if needed, and then stitch in place. That’s it!
Swim Hack
The new Loren Teddy makes a really sexy swimsuit with only a few modifications! Obviously not the best for hitting those water slides, but for a lounging type of pool atmosphere, Loren’s got you! For this hack, you’ll need swim fabric and swim lining (NOTE: You may also line your suit with the same swim fabric you use for your main), and 3/8″ swim elastic.
You will cut your pieces just like the Loren tutorial states, only adding extra front and back bottoms out of your lining fabric.
You will construct the top as directed in the Loren tutorial and set it aside. For the bottoms, I wanted to enclose the crotch and side seams. You’ll layer the pieces, lining up at the crotch, as follows: Back Lining WRONG SIDE UP, place the Front Lining RIGHT SIDE UP on top of the back lining, lining up at the crotch.
Now, place the Main Front over the lining pieces RIGHT SIDE UP
Place the Main Back WRONG SIDE UP over the other 3 pieces (your main front and back should be right sides together):
Pin in place and sew together. *optional baste your pieces together first.
Next is the side seams. Keep your bottoms in the same layering and pin the sides together. OPTIONAL: baste your pieces together first.
Flip your bottom’s right sides out. Your seams are now enclosed.
Baste your leg hole layers together.
Take your swim elastic and sew it together to form a loop. Pin your leg elastic to the leg hole, placing the elastic inside the leg hole. Elastic to the lining side. **I like to keep my elastic at a 1:1 ratio along the front leg hole, only stretching the elastic along the back.
Sew the elastic to the bottoms. Enclose to elastic but turn it towards the wrong side once. Pin in place.
Topstitch the legholes close to the elastic edge.
Attach your top and waist elastic as directed in the Loren tutorial, and that’s it! You’ve got a super cute, cheeky (or thong) one-piece!
Jade Mash
Stephanie is our unofficial, romper queen at Made for Mermaids! She added the Loren bodice to the Jade pattern romper bottoms. She used the same construction as Loren, just with Jade on the bottom.
