The updated Lana bra pattern uses “sister sizing”. This means sizes in each row have the same cup volume, even though the band and cup size change. For example, in the chart pictured below, all sizes in B CUP row – 28F, 30E, 32D, 34C, 36B, 38A – have the same cup size, but the bands change width. Each of those are ‘sister sizes’.
Knowing your sister size can help if you fall between sizes, and can also help you with fitting issues you might have. Use the chart below to find your measured size as well as sister sizes.
How does sister sizing help with fitting?
Your band doesn’t fit
If your band is too big, but your cup fits, go down a band size and up a cup size. Stay in the same row as your measured size, but move to the left). For example, if you made a 32D and the cup fits, but the band is too big, try a 30E next.
If you made a 32D and the cup fits, but the band is too tight, try a 34C next.
Although there are only two examples shown above, the same concept applies for all measured sizes.
Your cups don’t fit
If your band fits, but the cup is too big, you will want to keep the same band size and go down a cup size. In this case, you will move up a row, but stay in the same column. For example, if you made a 32D, and the band fits, but cup is too big, make a 32C next.
For another example: if you made a 32D, and the band fits, but cup is too small, try making a 32E next.
Although there are only two examples shown above, the same concept applies for all measured sizes.
Neither your band or cups fit
If both band and cup are too big; go down a cup AND down band size (move one row to the left and up 1 column) Ex. You made a 32D, both band and cups are too big; next make a 30D.
If both band and cup are too small; go up a cup AND up band size (move one row to the right and down 1 column) Ex. You made a 32D, both band and cups are too small; next make a 34D.
You’re using cut and sew foam
If using cut and sew foam, keep the same band size but go up a cup size. To do this, move down a row, but stay in the same column). For example, if you measure a 32D, but are using cut and sew foam, make a 32E.
Your under bust is between sizes
If your under bust is between sizes and closer to the smaller band size, go down a band size and up a cup size (same row, move to the left). For example, if your cup is measuring a C and your under bust is 28.75”, make a 28D. Note- if your under bust is measuring 29.75”, I would round up to the 30 band.
