12 Days of Christmas 2021- Day 7: Bow Pillow

It’s day 7, can you believe it? Today we have such an adorable freebie, a bow pillow! This is a great projector for a beginner sewist. It’s not only quick but OH so adorable when finished. Perfect for a child’s room, adding holiday colors to your couch, or for gifting!

SUPPLIES:

1/4 yard for bow center
1/2 yard for bow main
Woven fabrics such as canvas, cotton woven, sequins, corduroy, etc
Poly-Fil or other pillow stuffing such. You can even use fabric scraps!
Optional- trims such as pom balls

Step 1: Prepping

Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page , check out the blog post here, or ask in our Facebook group .

Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector. There are 9 pages to print out. Pattern layout below:

If you don’t want to print the pattern, cut 2 main pieces 14.5″ x 20.5″ and 1 center bow piece 6″ x 19″.

Step 2: Adding Trim (if not adding trim skip to step 3)

Attach chosen trim to the wide ends of your main pillow pieces. Keeping in mind your 1/4″ seam allowance, your trim may not line up exactly with the raw edges. Make sure the part of the trim you want facing out when finished is facing towards the center of your bow pillow for this step.

Step 3: Main Bow Pillow

Lay your two main pillow pieces right sides together. If you’ve added trim it’ll be sandwiched between the two. Sew all the way around leaving a 4″ hole for turning and stuffing.

Turn right side out and stuff your pillow with your stuffing. Once full, use an invisible hand stitch to stitch your stuffing hole closed. Set aside.

Step 4: Sewing the Bow Center

Fold your bow center in half “hot dog style” right sides together so your long edges are touching. Stitch together and turn right side out.

Press your piece so the seam is in the center. This will be the back wrong side of your bow center.

Fold the centerpiece in half right sides together so the raw edges are touching. Sew together creating a loop and then turn right side out.

Step 5: Finishing Your Bow Pillow

Now you’ll need to slide your bow center circle onto your bow pillow main. Since it’s smaller you’ll need to squish parts of the pillow down and work it through slowly. Once it’s in the center you can line up the seam of the centerpiece either with the bottom of the pillow or the center back of the pillow.
