Gillian Mini & Dress

Made for Mermaids Sewing Patterns are digital downloads. You will print OR project them at home, OR send them to a copy shop to print. This is not a physical garment or pattern and nothing will be mailed to you.

Gillian is a versatile knit dress with a classic, slightly retro-inspired feel and plenty of options to make it your own. Gillian is fitted through the bust and waist, semi-fitted through the hips, and gently flares toward the hem for a flattering silhouette. With no waist seam, Gillian features ruching across the front at the natural waist, while the back remains smooth and unruched. Choose from three neckline options: boat neck, boat neck with a keyhole, or scoop neck. The boat neck and keyhole options are finished with knit binding, while the scoop neckline is finished with a traditional neckband. Choose from four sleeve options: cap, fitted long, flutter, or bell sleeve. Choose your length with a mid-thigh mini or an above-the-knee dress. With its flattering shape and variety of options, Gillian can be dressed up for date night or special occasions or styled casually for everyday wear.

Sizes (includes both imperial and metric measurements):

• •Fits full bust sizes 30″-60″ or 76.2-153.4 cm
• •Fits natural waist sizes: 23″-57″ or 58.4-134.6 cm.
• •Fits hips sizes: 34″-64″ or 86.3-162.6 cm.

Skill level:

• •Confident beginner- The bindings and adding clear elastic to waist gathers will be the most difficult step for a true beginner.

Suggested Fabrics:

• •Gillian is drafted for medium weight knits with at least 50% horizontal stretch, some vertical stretch, and good recovery. Something with a softer drape and more vertical stretch, like a rayon, modal, or bamboo spandex knits, tend to ‘grow’ with wear and feel looser and will not hold the waist gathers well. Something thicker, like a custom cotton lycra, will fit tighter than intended. Something light or heavier are not recommended.
  • •OUR FAVORITE FABRICS: DBP, cotton lycra (not custom), ribbed knit, etc.

Notions:

• •1/4″ clear elastic
• • Optional: fusible knit interfacing, 1/2″ wonder under, or knit hem tape
• •Basics: iron, marking tool, ruler, snips, thread, pins or clips, scissors or rotary cutter, hem gauge.
