All I want for Christmas is a bunch of new sweatpants, and the Silas + Sloan Patterns are IT! Our three newest patterns – Silas Sweats (adult), Sloan Sweats (adult), and Youth Sloan Sweats – are here and perfect for all the Hallmark Movie watching I intend to do this month.
The Youth & Adult Sloan Sweats pattern includes shorts (youth has short and long shorts, adult has 3″ and 4.5″), hemmed, cuffed, or elastic sweatpants options. The Adult Sloan Sweats is drafted to the women’s standard measurement chart. It is fitted at the waistband with ease in the hips and through the leg and then fitted at the ankle. Sloan includes both mid and high rise options. Choose from two waistband options: a flat waistband, or a classic waistband with an optional drawstring. Both waistbands have enclosed elastic. You can also add an optional inseam, back, or cargo pockets (or all three!) to complete your look.
The Adult Silas Sweats pattern is drafted to the men’s standard measurement chart. The shorts inseam lengths included for Silas are 7″ and 11″ for shorts, whereas Sloan includes 3.5″ and 4″. The Silas also has one rise option and sits lower, at the preferred waist. Depending on your inseam and rise preference, you may prefer the fit of one over the other; just be sure to check the measurement charts to ensure you get the best fit.

Choosing Your Options
We have lots of tester photos in our FB group and on the site if you want to see a variety of photos of each option before you decide! Here is a quick snapshot of the different options:
Fabric + Notions
Silas and Sloan are drafted for stable knits with 20% or more stretch horizontally, and some vertical stretch. A variety of knit fabrics can be used for different looks. Lighter weight knits with drape will fit looser than intended. If you’re adding cuffs to the legs, you will want a fabric with good recovery. Our favorite fabric options for these patterns include sweatshirt knits, sweatshirt fleece, fleece backed jersey, athletic fleece, cotton lycra French Terry, etc.
You may also need:
- All options require 2″ knit elastic for Silas and Sloan, and 1.5″ for Youth Sloan.
- Inseam pocket option: fusible lightweight knit interfacing
- Elastic hem option: 1″ knit elastic for Silas and Sloan, and 1/2″ knit elastic for youth Sloan
- Drawstring option: fusible lightweight knit interfacing
- Drawstring option: 1/4″ grommets (outside diameter must be 1/2″ or smaller)
- Drawstring option: drawstring cording unless you wish to make your own drawstring
