SUPPLIES:
- Fabric – woven fabric like quilting cotton, linen, denim, etc. A variety of fabrics can be used.
- All the pieces can be cut from scraps, if you’re purchasing fabric see below:
- 1/8 for the upper fabric (3 x 17 scrap of fabric)
- 1/4 for the lower fabric (8.5 x 10 scrap of fabric)
- 3/8 yard lining (9.5 x 12.5 scrap of fabric)
- 3/8 yard fusible fleece (8.5 x 11.5 piece)
- 8″ zipper
LET’S GET STARTED!

Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page , check out the blog post here, or ask in our Facebook group .
Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector. Pattern layout below:
Step 2: CUTTING
- All in inches.
- Cut 2 (mirror images) upper main
- Cut 1 lower main
- Cut 1 lining
- Cut 1 interlining in fusible fleece
- Cut 2 (1 main, 1 lining) zipper end or 1.25 x 2.25
Step 3: SEWING
With right sides together, stitch 1 upper main to the lower main, repeat with other upper main piece. Optional- add trim or lace in the seam or on top seam.
Press seam and topstitch.
Add fusible fleece to wrong side. Now treat as one piece. Set aside.
With right sides together, pin main zipper end to end of the zipper.
Flip the zipper over and pin the lining zipper end on the other side.
Stitch with a 3/8″ seam allowance and then press right sides out.
Unzip the zipper and pin with right sides together, pin the zipper to the main piece, aligning the zipper end to the bottom of the curved side. There should be a small space on the diagonal side where the zipper will not meet. You may need to carefully clip into the zipper tape to help ease the zipper to the curved edge. Baste the zipper in place with a 1/4″ seam.
Baste the zipper in place with a 1/4″ seam.
Repeat on the other side of the zipper/side of the main piece.
Pin the lining to the main piece along the curved edge. The zipper will be sandwiched between. Stitch together with a 3/8″ seam.
Repeat on the other side/zipper.
Pull the lining from the main, and place the diagonal edges right sides together- main to main, lining to lining.
Stitch diagonal side with a 3/8″ seam, leaving an opening on the lining side to flip.
Flatten seams so the bottom base is formed. Sew with a 3/8″ seam.
Repeat on the lining side.
Repeat on the curved side. You will stack the main and lining together. Sew with a 3/8″ seam.
All corners should be boxed.
Flip it right sides out from the opening in the lining.
Topstitch around the zipper to hold lining in place.
Press nicely, and you’re done!
