On the Second Day of Christmas, Made for Mermaids Gave to Me… an Eye Mask Freebie!
It’s Day 2 of our 12 Days of Christmas freebies, and today we’re bringing you the gift of rest and relaxation! 🎁 Our eye mask pattern is here, and it’s perfect for everyone on your list, available in dolly, youth, and adult sizes.
These eye masks are not only quick and easy to sew but also endlessly customizable! Add quilting for a cozy touch, a satin back for a luxe feel, or choose fabrics that reflect the recipient’s favorite colors and patterns. They’re the perfect addition to stockings, gift baskets, or even paired with a homemade bathrobe, pajamas, or sleepy slippers. Marilyn, Rita, Spencer, Peyton, Betty, Saraya & Remi would be perfect! Add them to other freebies like our heatless curlers, travel bag, shower cap, towel wrap, reusable facial rounds, spa headband, zip-up pouch, or if you’re looking for a dolly our Barnacle Buddies fit all 18″ doll clothes (including our dolly patterns & freebies!).
Whether you’re sewing for your family, friends, or even your little one’s favorite dolly, this project is sure to bring smiles (and some much-needed naps!). So, grab your favorite fabric and let’s make a few!

Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page , check out the blog post here, or ask in our Facebook group .
Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector. Pattern layout below:
Step 2: CUTTING
- OPTIONAL- Cut a rectangle of your main fabric and batting to quilt before cutting your main piece out:
- Dolly- 4.5″ x 6.75″
- Youth- 5.25″ x 8.5″
- Adult- 6″ x 10″
- Cut 2 eye mask pieces (1 main, 1 lining)
- Cut 1 eye mask in batting or fleece
- Cut 1 back band:
- Dolly- 2 x 16
- Youth- 2 x22
- Adult- 2 x 26
- Cut one piece of 3/8″ elastic:
- Dolly- 8″
- Youth- 11″
- Adult- 13″
Step 3: SEWING
Fold the back band in half, with the right sides together along the long edge with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Flip it right sides out and then press. I like to press the seam toward the back.
Use a safety pin to insert elastic in the band and stitch ends to hold the elastic.
Place batting on the wrong side of the main piece, aligning raw edges. Baste around the edges and treat them as one.
With the right sides together, pin the elastic band to the main piece using the markings on the pattern piece. Baste.
Place lining over main/elastic back band and stitch all around using a 1/2″ seam allowance, leaving a 2″-3″ open to turn.
Press the unsewn opening toward the wrong side 1/2″. Then clip curves/seam. Press it right sides out.
Topstitch all around to close the opening OR hand sew the opening closed.
