It’s the last day of Christmas freebies. I hope you’ve enjoyed all the freebies we created for you this year. The last freebie is a fabric tray in two sizes. These are perfect for throwing your sewing clips or notions in, in your entryway for your keys and wallet, on your nightstand for hair ties or chapstick, or for a jewelry holder! It makes a great gift for yourself or anyone on your list in special fabric scraps you’ve been holding on to.
SUPPLIES:
- Quilting cotton is my favorite, but you can use thicker woven fabrics like faux leather, upholstery fabrics, etc.
- 1/4 yard fabric and 1/4 yard batting for the smaller tray
- 1/3 yard fabric and 1/3 yard batting for the larger tray
- Small scraps will work if you have them.
LET’S GET STARTED!
1/2″ seam allowances included.
Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page or ask in our Facebook group .
Print and assemble the pattern. Alternatively, you can use the projector file if you’re using a projector. Pattern layout below:
Larger tray cut 9.5 x 9.5: 2 main, 1 batting
Smaller tray cat 6.5 x 6.5: 2 main, 1 batting
Step 2: CUTTING
Cut 2 pieces for the tray and cut 1 batting.
Step 3: ASSEMBLING
Layer batting, wrong side to one piece. Then place the other piece with the right sides together on top.
Stitch with 1/2″ seam, leaving a 2″-3″ opening to turn.
Clip corners and trim seams (not opening area). Press the seam back on the opening.
Turn right sides out. Press. Edgestitch around, closing the opening.
Step 4: STITCHING LINES
Measure 1.75″ on each side for LARGE tray. Mark with chalk or an erasable pen. Stitch on the marked lines to create a square.
Step 5: FINISHING
Pinch the corners from stitched line to the top edge.
Stitch from the stitched square up to the top edge to create corners.
That’s it; your tray is complete!
