Today we have a cute keychain wallet for you! It comes in 2 sizes: a mask holder and a cardholder size. Whether you are a professional and need to keep your business cards handy or just need a cute wallet to throw some cards and your ID in when you’re headed out the door, this little card case is sure to come in handy. The mask holder is a better option then your pocket or stuffed in a purse or backpack. It’s a great gift for kids to hand on their backpacks or dance/athletic bag and keep their masks handy.
SUPPLIES:
For Mask Holder:
- 1/4 yard cotton woven fabric
- sew-on velcro or a snap
- 1-inch keychain or lobster clasp
For Cardholder:
- 1/4 yard faux leather, or vinyl (edges are raw on the cardholder)
- snap
- 1-inch keychain or lobster clasp
LET’S GET STARTED!
1/4″ seam allowances included.
Step 1: PREPPING
Go grab the pattern here! The pattern is 100% free, but you do need to add it to your cart and checkout. Then, it will always be available to download from your account. The pattern is a no trim pattern; if you need help putting the pattern together, pop over to the faqs and troubleshooting page or ask in our Facebook group .
Print and assemble the pattern. There are 3 pages to print out. Pattern layout below:
Step 2: CUTTING
For the mask holder, you will need to cut 2 front pieces (in a main and lining fabric), 2 back pieces (in a main and lining fabric), and 2 tab pieces.
For the cardholder, you will need 1 front, 1 back, and 1 tab piece.
- Mask Pouch
- Cardholder
Step 3: MARK VELCRO PLACEMENT (OPTIONAL)
If using velcro on your mask holder, mark your velcro placement on both your front and back pieces.
For your cardholder, mark your snap placement (skip to step 6 for cardholder)
Step 4:
Place your main and lining pieces right sides together for all of your mask holder pieces. Sew with 1/4 inch seam allowance on your front and back main all the way around leaving a 2-inch space at the bottom of each to turn your pieces inside out. On the tab piece, stitch each long side, leaving the short ends unsewn.
Step 5: PREP PIECES FOR ASSEMBLY
Clip your corners and trim your seam allowances, I like to use pinking shears for this step. Turn inside out, make sure to make your corners nice and sharp, and press well. When pressing you to want to press the space that you left open to the inside the full 1/4 inch seam allowance.
If you are using velcro, place the velcro on your markings and sew in place.
Step 6: ADD KEYCHAIN OR LOBSTER CLASP
For your mask holder, you will want to topstitch your keychain piece on both sides. Once topstitched add your keychain or lobster clasp to the center of the piece and then fold in half. Then finish the short ends of the fabric with either a zig-zag stitch or a serger, being careful not to cut any of the pieces off.
For the cardholder just slip your keychain or clasp on, no need to finish the edge. Optional- baste short ends together.
Step 7: FINISHING
Both the mask holder and cardholder are assembled in the same order. You will place your back piece lining side up, add your keychain piece on the side (about an inch or so down from where your back piece curves to make your flap). Make sure it’s placed so you will catch that piece in your seam. Place your front piece on the top, right side up. Pin in place. For your mask holder, you are going to topstitch all the way around making sure to catch the open space at the bottom.
For your cardholder, you will stitch only around the front main piece with 1/4 or 1/8 of an inch seam allowance. Again make sure that your keychain piece is in far enough that you will catch all layers of your pieces.
Step 8: ADD SNAP (IF USING)
On your cardholder, add your snap using the placement you marked or on the pattern piece. I used a Kam snap on all of mine and they worked very well. Fold over mark your second snap and add that as well.
For your mask holder, center your snap and place where you would like. (Again you can use your personal preference here and add it where ever you would like)
All done! Go clip those cute little cases onto all your backpacks and bags and have your mask and cards handy whenever needed!
